Artist Statement

Several years ago I worked at a folk art gallery in Bristol called the "Splendid Peasant."  I learned to really appreciate the  beautiful items crafted by ordinary people to make everyday life a little more pleasant.  From samplers stitched by young girls, to weathervanes crafted from hand hammered copper , to myriads of utilitarion items decorated by hand.  Today we admire them for their originality and skill, but to take the time to hand craft such lovely items at a time when life was much more difficult than it is today shows a certain strength of character.  Yes, the world has always had its celebrated artists, but it is the need of everybody to have their life enriched by the arts.  I truly believe that the arts should more accessable to people, and that  is my goal as an artist.  For some reason visual arts have never claimed the popularity of the performing arts, and I would like to see that changed.  I love to paint and create my sailor's valentines, but I love it even more when I know thay have found a happy home.  Hope you enjoy them as well.
